Top MLB Player Prop Bets & Picks: Thursday (4/24)

We turned in a 1-2 day with our three MLB player prop wagers on Tuesday, but did everything we could to put ourselves in position for a profitable day. Kansas City blew a 2-0 ninth-inning lead for Kris Bubic, which would have cashed a +110 play for him to record the win.

We are back to the drawing board with our top two plays for Thursday’s small nine-game slate.

Thursday's Best MLB Player Prop Bets

    (Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Randy Arozarena Over 0.5 RBI (+210

This may seem like a blasphemous wager involving a Mariners player who faces the American League’s Cy Young Award frontrunner in Garrett Crochet (2-1, 1.13 ERA). However, Seattle has been raking on the road of late, and Randy Arozarena has outstanding career numbers, albeit amid a small sample size, against Crochet.

Arozarena is 3-for-3 with a home run in his career against Crochet, and hits behind Cal Raleigh, who also has a home run in two at-bats against the southpaw. Arozarena entered Wednesday batting just .193, but has a much more respectable .231 batting average against lefty hurlers. In addition, 35% of his RBI have come against left-handed pitchers, despite just 31% of his at-bats coming in that split.

Seattle entered Wednesday ranked first in the majors by a wide margin in wRC+, and led the American League in walk rate, slugging and wOBA in road games. While Crochet does not figure to allow many runs (his total for earned runs is 1.5), this is still a fantastic value for Arozarena to drive in a run from what will likely be the cleanup spot.

MacKenzie Gore Under Earned 2.5 Runs Allowed (-170

Baltimore’s struggles against left-handed pitching continued on Tuesday, as it managed just one hit and three total base-runners against Nationals southpaw Mitchell Parker. The Orioles are now 1-6 in games started by left-handed pitchers, and face one of the National League’s best southpaws tonight in MacKenzie Gore.

Gore leads the league thus far with 45 strikeouts and a 14.0 K/9 rate, while pitching to a filthy 2.20 FIP. While his .393 batting average on balls in play (BABIP) is on pace to be a career-worst, he has also shown great command of the strike zone, lowering his walk rate for a fourth consecutive year to a career-best 6.7%.

Gore allowed three runs in six innings in his only career starts against Baltimore, but it entered Wednesday ranked 29th in wOBA and wRC+ against left-handed pitching. I do not expect Baltimore’s offense to turn things around today, which suggests Gore should allow two or fewer earned runs for the fourth time in six starts.
