Edmonton Oilers at Vegas Golden Knights

The Oilers are one of the hottest teams in the playoffs. They just rattled off their fifth straight win, and the fifth consecutive time they trailed and made a comeback.

It was another well-balanced effort, with the offense getting three of the four goals in the third period. Connor McDavid (13) and Leon Draisaitl (12) are leading the way in playoff points.

This was one of the better defensive performances, as the blue line allowed just 17 shots, and Calvin Pickard did enough to keep the Golden Knights contained, allowing two goals, and now has allowed 2.76 goals per game in the playoffs.

The momentum they have built will be hard to stop, even with a team as good as Vegas.

Carolina Hurricanes at Washington Capitals

If this is the Hurricanes’ defense we see for the rest of the series, we could have an upset. Dominating puck possession is their key, and it shows as they led the regular season in expected goal share, Corsi, and Fenwick rate.

The Hurricanes’ defense is aggressive, and they generate takeaways, which helps gain fastbreak opportunities. This should have been a runaway for the Canes, but Capitals goalie Logan Thompson certainly earned his two-star performance with 31 saves, including saving 8-of-8 high-danger shots.

Carolina plays a much different style than Montreal, and it seems it caught Washington off guard. They did much better in that first-round series, clearing pucks out of the neutral zone, getting to the high point, and being able to set up shots. That isn't going to happen with the Hurricanes’ defense.
