Tuesday's NHL Best Bets: Jets vs. Stars

The NHL postseason continues tonight, but the league features just one standalone matchup in the Lonestar State between the Winnipeg Jets (1-2) and the Dallas Stars (2-1). Dallas took care of business in game three on Sunday, notching a 5-2 victory over the President's Trophy winners. Below I'll dive into the odds and my favorite bet for this pivotal game four. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX.

Jets vs. Stars

Guys, I wish I had a cool angle or something groundbreaking to offer you, but sometimes it's all about making the meat-and-potatoes play when betting on sports. I'm riding with the Stars on the moneyline, and honestly, I'm a bit surprised that this line isn't out around -165 or so in favor of the home team.

Let's start with the biggest anti-Winnipeg angle, which is (somewhat) surprisingly Connor Hellebuyck, who is a lock for the Vezina Trophy this season. I say "somewhat" above because we've seen Helle struggle mightily in the playoffs and in big-time games in the past. Those woes have carried over to this specific postseason, where the Winnipeg netminder is 5-5-0 with a 3.51 GAA and a .848 SV%. In four road games, his SV% is just .772 (71-92), and he's conceded 5+ goals in every contest!

Meanwhile, the Stars continue to get healthy, as they welcomed back Jason Robertson prior to the series. He's scoreless with five SOG during the series, but it certainly doesn't hurt adding a 35-goalscorer to your third line. Yep, Robertson's slotting in on the third line, which just shows how deep this Dallas team is when fully healthy.

As I said, I wish I had some cutting-edge analysis here, but I simply don't think the Jets have the firepower to keep pace with the Stars in this series, especially when Hellebuyck is playing this poorly. Just to throw in a couple more supplementary stats, Dallas went a respectable 28-10-3 at home this season, and Jake Oettinger boasts a 2.3 GAA and .913 SV% during this series. Give me the Stars.

Pick: Stars Moneyline (-145)
