Rory McIlroy's thrilling victory at The Masters last month set up some compelling storylines for the second major of the season, the 2025 PGA Championship, which will be played this week at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.

McIlroy completed the career grand slam with his win at Augusta. If he wins again this week, he'll be halfway to a true grand slam. McIlroy has fared well at Quail Hollow throughout his career, having won four tournaments there. It's a course that favors big hitters — right up McIlroy's alley.

But McIlroy isn't even the favorite this week. That would be Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world. Scheffler cruised to an eight-shot victory at his most recent event, the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Will golf fans be treated to a duel between McIlroy and Scheffler? Or will other top players intervene? Defending PGA champ Xander Schauffele is certainly capable of repeating. Sergio Garcia is searching for his first PGA Championship win at 45 years old. The Spaniard has a pair of runner-up finishes at this major, which came in 1999 and 2008. He had a solo fourth-place finish at the 2019 Wells Fargo Championship.

Garcia missed the cut during the first major of 2025 at The Masters (+4). He's ranked fourth in fairways hit on LIV and 13th in scrambling.

His team, Fireballs GC, has an outright win at LIV Hong Kong and a third-place finish at LIV Miami back in March and April.

I don't have much interest in Garcia this week. He's past his prime and is finding greens in regulation at under 67%. The putter is solid and the driver is accurate, yet Garcia's irons aren't to be trusted, even at +8000 odds.
